Best Food Vacuum Sealer for Home Preservers

Instead of reviewing 10 different vacuum sealers, we’ll get straight to the point and share our top recommendation for best vacuum sealer.

Long-term food storage is a great way to reduce waste in your kitchen. If you can’t use all of that flour, fruit, cereal, or rice, just stick it in a Mason jar and stash it in your pantry for awhile!

For optimal food preservation, however, you’ll need more than just jars and lids. You’ll need a vacuum sealer to suck out the extra oxygen and create an airtight seal against the elements.

Our Pick for the Best Food Vacuum Sealer: FoodSaver

The FoodSaver Vacuum Sealer Machine is our top pick in vacuum sealers. Despite its advanced technology, it’s very easy to use, and it comes with extras like a custom roll cutter that’ll let you size your freezer bags to your exact specifications.

It’s also a sleek and stylish piece of technology that’ll fit right in with your other kitchen appliances!

Another great thing about the FoodSaver is that it’s durable and long-lasting. If you hate wasting anything, this is the best vacuum sealer for heavy use, allowing you to save and store oats, herbs, spices, veggies, chips, jerky, and more.

Operating the FoodSaver is simple. Just attach it to your food container, press a button, and watch the oxygen get sucked out to leave a compressed and airtight seal behind.

The process can be done with all kinds of containers: Not only does the FoodSaver work on freezer bags, but its hose attachment makes it compatible with jars, canisters, and certain types of tupperware.

All things considered, the FoodSaver is a handy, all-in-one tool for food storage… and for the Mason jar enthusiasts out there, it’s definitely the best food vacuum sealer with a jar attachment!

Do You Really Need a Vacuum Sealer?

If you consider yourself a food saver, having the right equipment can save you lots of time and effort in the kitchen.

Once you get the hang of it, for example, a vacuum sealer can take less than a minute to use, but it can preserve your food for up to three years.

Another thing to think about is the average length of your food storage. If you just like to save leftovers for a day or two, a vacuum seal isn’t really necessary.

If you’re packing things away for the entire winter, however, a vacuum seal can be a prudent measure for preventing spoilage, reducing freezer burn, or saving space in your cupboards.

It can also preserve the taste and texture of your food so that it feels fresh even when it’s months out of season!

An important thing to note is that not all vacuum sealers are compatible with all types of food storage containers.

For example, if you’re looking for a food sealer for jars or other glass containers, you might need something with an accessory port that hooks up to a specialty jar attachment.

Features to Look for in a Vacuum Sealer

Once you’ve decided that a vacuum sealer is right for you, it’s time to look at what distinguishes “eh, it’s okay” from “wow, this bad boy is a must-have!”

Strong Suction

Suction is one of the most important features of your vacuum sealer. Whether you’re using bags, jars, or canisters, you’ll want to create a completely airtight and leak-proof seal.

Not only will this prevent the oxidation that results in food going bad, but it’ll also reduce the volume of your storage containers, allowing you to fit more into your freezers and cupboards.

You don’t have to be a gadget guru to understand how a vacuum sealer works.

In fact, the best vacuum sealers will have preprogrammed settings or intuitive controls like one-touch power buttons. You’ll be able to harness all of their technology even if you have no idea what’s going on under the hood!

To see the suctioning power for yourself, check out reviews, videos, and product demonstrations of whatever vacuum sealer that you’re eyeballing.

Accessory Port

Depending on the type of vacuum sealer that you buy, it may or may not be compatible with things like Mason jars.

This is where an accessory port comes in: It’s an extra, adaptable piece of tech that allows you to use your vacuum sealer with various types of containers. It usually comes in the form of a rubber jar sealer attached to a hose.

Sometimes, these accessories are included with your purchase; there are even high-end food sealers with retractable adapters built right into the machine.

Other times, these extra accessories are sold separately, so make sure to double-check before you buy.

Not Too Large or Heavy

There’s no such thing as a “one size fits all” vacuum sealer. Some are small, handheld devices that can be tucked away when not in use; others are large appliances that will require permanent space on your countertop.

There’s no right or wrong answer when it comes to the right kind of vacuum sealer for your particular household.

What do you need for your food storage purposes?

Moderate Noise

Vacuum sealers are noisy. It’s a fact of life.

However, there can definitely be a difference in noise levels between various makes and models, so if you’re looking for a quiet machine, it’s worth reading reviews or watching product videos to see how loud it’s going to be.

Another thing to consider is how long it takes to operate. Some vacuum sealers only need 10 – 20 seconds to make a container completely airless, so even if it sounds harsh, it might not be a big problem for you.

Dry vs. Moist Setting

Is it possible to vacuum seal “wet” food containing sauces, marinades, and gravies? Yes!

You’ll just need a food saver that comes with different modes for dry and moist foods. In moist mode, the appliance will lock in most of the liquid while siphoning away the excess and sucking away the oxygen.

It’s also possible to vacuum seal completely liquid foods like soups, but this will require an expensive chamber vacuum sealer.

Best for Budget: Vacuum Sealer Machine By Mueller

You don’t have to spend big bucks on a vacuum sealer. In fact, when you buy the Vacuum Sealer Machine By Mueller, you can enjoy a professional-grade appliance for only a fraction of the usual cost.

Its design is clean, simple, and very user-friendly. All controls are clearly labelled, including “moist” and “dry” vacuuming modes and “gentle” and “airtight” sealing types.

Accessories include pre-cut vacuum bags, an uncut roll of vacuuming paper, and an air suction hose for compatibility with other food storage containers.

It doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles of fancier vacuum sealers, but its simplicity is part of its charm. It’s also the reason for its affordability.

If you’re looking for a basic, no-nonsense food saver that can be bought on a budget, consider the Vacuum Sealer Machine By Mueller.

Best Food Vacuum Sealer Bags

Not all freezer bags are created equal. Some, including the Nutri-Lock Vacuum Sealer Bags, are a step above the rest in terms of freshness, utility, and ease of use.

For starters, they’re made with nontoxic materials that are certified BPA-free.

Their suction is also top notch; they can preserve food for up to five times longer than their competitors because their compressing and sealing technology is less susceptible to freezer burn and other forms of spoilage.

Last but not least, these bags can be used with wet and dry food, so it doesn’t matter if you’re saving cut-up fruit or meat soaked in a marinade. It’ll get the job done every time.

Is Vacuum Sealing Food Worth It?

If you store food on a regular basis, it’s probably worth it to buy a vacuum sealer.

It can prevent spoilage, reduce food waste, and free up lots of room in your pantry. The right model can be utilized with multiple types of containers, including freezer bags and Mason jars.

It’s also a quick and easy process that takes less than a minute once you get the hang of it!

All things considered, whether you’re saving leftovers or stashing away emergency rations, a vacuum sealer can be a valuable investment for long-term food storage.

  1. Jordan,

I clicked on the link for the Mason jar kit and then saw this one:
    https://www.amazon.com/B0BMXQ27BT/

The majority of the reviews seem to be about something else, so they’re not really helpful.

I don’t have a vacuum sealer at all, so this seemed like a really low-cost entry to the process to see how I like it and how it works for us. From my understanding,
you don’t need a separate sealer with this one.

    What are your thoughts?
