Not only is it cheaper than store-bought options, but making it at home allows us to control the ingredients and create a delicious blend.

Ingredients
To kick off our homemade onion soup mix recipe, gather these ingredients:
- 1/2 cup beef bouillon (we recommend Orrington Farms brand broth base)
- 1 cup minced onions (dried)
- 1/2 tablespoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley
- 1 tablespoon salt

Instructions
Let’s begin by combining all the ingredients together. Start with half a cup of beef bouillon, but you can adjust accordingly based on personal preference.
Next up is one full cup of minced onions (dried). Feel free to heap them slightly for added flavor.
Add in half a tablespoon of pepper followed by one tablespoon of dried parsley. If your parsley isn’t already crushed, give it a quick mix with your hands before adding it to the mixture.
Store-bought dried parsley should already be crushed for you.
Lastly, add one tablespoon of salt and give everything a good mix. Use a fork to break up any clumps of beef broth or salt that may have formed.
Storing Your Homemade Onion Soup Mix
Now that our onion soup mix is ready, let’s transfer it into a pint jar. Using a canning funnel will make this process easier and less messy.
Store on your pantry shelf, out of direct sunlight, for up to a year!
How to Make Onion Dip with Your Mix
To make a delicious onion dip, you’ll need:
- 16 oz sour cream
- 1/3 cup of the homemade onion soup mix
Simply combine the sour cream with the seasoning mixture, and you’re ready for some good snackin’!
How to Make Onion Soup
To make a pot of onion soup:
- Bring 3 1/2 cups of water to a boil
- Add 1/4 cup dry onion soup mix
- Lower to a simmer, and simmer for 5 minutes

This sounds great I can’t wait to make up a batch. I’m wondering if you’ve ever tried a salt free bullion. Salt adds flavor but hidden salts make it harder to get better control over salt intact. I’m also thinking about making this recipe up with chicken bullion for a rub or marinade base.
