Homemade Superfood Smoothie [Shelf-Stable]

I created this shelf-stable smoothie recipe over the course of a year.

My criteria?

  • Nutritious
  • Complete meal (protein, fat, fruit, vegetable, fiber)
  • Affordable (watch the video at the end of this post for the cost breakdown)
  • Shelf-stable (in order to stock ingredients in bulk once a year)
  • Delicious (like chocolate shake delicious)

If that sounds good to you, don’t miss this recipe for a homemade, budget-friendly superfood smoothie!

Tips for Making This Pantry Smoothie

I consider this a “pantry meal” because it uses all shelf-stable, long-lasting ingredients. However, feel free to swap out any of the powders for their fresh alternatives. 🙂

We purchase all of our smoothie powders from ZNaturalFoods:

Sometimes, the chia seed can cause a weird texture that is unappetizing, but it usually isn’t an issue. If the smoothie has a thicker, gummier texture, it’s the chia seeds, so you can just eliminate those if you like.

If you grind the chia seeds first, it’s much better. I usually grind enough to fill a pint jar. You don’t want to grind too much at one time because ground chia seed (or chia powder) doesn’t last as long as whole chia seed.
