What to Plant and When

Knowing what to plant—and when—can get tricky.

When I first started gardening, I ran countless google searches for every plant and had a disheveled heap of notes as a result.

I wish I knew about Clyde’s Slide Chart from the very beginning!

It is just $7, and it’s the only tool you’ll need to know what to plant when.

If you don’t want to use this tool, you can do one of two things:

  1. Google search “When to plant [plant name] in zone [your zone number].” For instance, “When to plant tomatoes in zone 7b.” Rinse & repeat for each crop you want to plant.
  2. If you have already purchased your seeds, the packet should provide planting information in relation to your frost dates. For instance, “Plant 2-3 weeks before your last frost.” Or, “Plant after all threat of frost has passed.” You can then record this information for each plant on your Growing Calendar planner page.
