These fluffy potato dinner rolls are soft, buttery, and made extra tender with instant potato flakes for that classic, comforting flavor. With a simple mason jar mix prepped ahead of time, homemade rolls are just minutes away!

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 12 rolls 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dry Mix

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 3 tablespoons powdered buttermilk (or regular powdered milk)

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour)

  • 1/3 cup instant potato flakes

  • 2 1/4 tsp instant dry yeast

Wet Ingredients to Add Later

  • 1¼ cups warm water

  • 1 large egg

  • 3 tablespoons butter (cold or room temp)

Instructions

  1. Add liquids first: In your bread machine pan, add warm water, egg, and butter.

  2. Add jar mix: Dump the full contents of one prepared jar into the machine.

  3. Run dough cycle: Select the “Dough” setting and start the machine (usually 1.5 to 2 hours).

  4. Shape the rolls:

    • Lightly flour your surface.

    • Divide dough into 12 equal portions and roll into balls.

    • Place in a greased 9×13 baking dish.

  5. Let rise: Cover and allow to proof in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).

  6. Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

  7. Butter the tops: While hot, rub tops with butter to keep soft and add flavor.
